First Aid Courses
This course is designed to provide learners with the knowledge and skills to be a First Aid Responder. Upon completion of the FAR course participants should be able to:
- Deal with life-threatening or potentially life-threatening conditions until the arrival of emergency medical services
- Provide an adequate response for conditions not thought to be life-threatening but are necessary to prevent further harm before the emergency medical services arrive
- Provide first-aid in a wide range of environments including the workplace, home and recreational settings
- Display the requisite personal skills including composure, competence and self-confidence while understanding their limitations
This course consists of practical skills assessment and a written 20 question exam. Participants must attain 60% in all assessments in order to achieve certification. Max group size of 8 participants
On completion of this course participants will receive a certificate and it will need to be updated every two years.
This Pre-Hospital Care Council (PHECC) course provides a basic level of training to administer Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), treat a choking patient, deal with a heart attack and stroke patient.
Any business that has a AED on their premises should ensure adequate number of employees are trained in the correct use of the device. A Cardiac First Responder plays a vital role in keeping a person alive until they can receive expert clinical care. The course covers:
- Patient Assessment
- CPR – Adult, Child and Infant
- Use of Face Mask Barrier Devices
- Automated External Defibrillator – AED
- Recovery (safe airway) Position
- Choking – Conscious and Unconscious – Adult, Child and Infant
- Airway Obstruction – Adult, Child and Infant
- Aspirin Administration for Heart Attack
- Stroke
- Skills Group Practice
This course is designed for anyone working in childcare services and meets requirements set out by Early Childhood Ireland and Tusla. The course will enable trainees to assist the dedicated First Aid Responder (FAR). This course will be delivered by a PHECC recognised instructor and will cover:
- Scene Assessment and Safety
- Responsibilities of a First Aider
- CPR for Adults and Children
- AED for Adults and Children
- Common Medical Emergencies
- Injury Management and shock
- Care of unconscious patient
- Burns and electrical injuries
- Meningitis
This course is for anyone who wishes to have basic first aid life saving skills. This course will be delivered by a PHECC recognised instructor and will cover:
- Scene Assessment and Safety
- Responsibilities of a First Aider
- CPR & AED for Adults and Children
- Heart Attack, Stroke and Choking
- Common Medical Emergencies
- Injury Management and shock
- Care of unconscious patient
- Burns and electrical injuries
There is one practical skills assessment to be completed and a short multiple choice exam.
Ergonomics Courses
Under the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005 and General Applications 2007 all employees must complete a Manual Handling Course every 3 years. This applies to all employees either working in a physical or static (sitting or standing) role. The course includes:
- Manual Handling introduction and definition
- Structure and mechanics of the spine
- Causes and Prevention of Back Pain
- Risk assessment
- Ergonomics- Static and Dynamic
- Lifting Skills, theory and practical
- The Law
This course is designed for healthcare workers who need to be trained to safely move and handle patients under the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work 2005 and Manual Handling Regulations 1993 and 2007. This course must be completed every 2 years. The course includes:
- Manual Handling introduction and definition
- Structure and mechanics of the spine
- Causes and Prevention of Back Pain
- Risk assessment
- Ergonomics- Static and Dynamic
- Lifting Skills, theory and practical
- Patient moving moves
- Use of Mechanical Aids
- The Law
If an employee spends 1 consecutive hour or more per day at a computer workstation, employers are required to complete a VDU (Visual Display Unit)/DSE (Display Screen Equipment) assessment under the Health and Safety Welfare at work 2005 act, specifically SI 299 of 2007, Chapter 5.
This assessment and training must be carried out by a competent person with sufficient training in VDU/DSE assessments. They must also provide training on the safe work practices of that particular workstation which should include:
- Work station layout/design- Screen, Keyboard and Mouse
- Workstation location and desktop position
- Correct working posture
- Lighting, temperature and noise levels
Fire Safety Courses
To comply with the Safety Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005 (Part 2, Section 11)-
The employer must provide adequate plans and procedures to be followed and measures to be taken in the case of emergency or serious and imminent danger such as fire. The employer must also designate employees who are required to implement these plans, procedures etc. These employees are known as fire wardens and the employer must ensure that all designated employees have adequate training and equipment available to them.
This course is for anyone who is the designated Fire Warden on your premises.
This course is aimed at raising awareness of Fire Hazards and to train people how to react and act safely in the event of an emergency fire. The course covers:
- The nature of Fire
- Fire Triangle
- Fire hazards and risks
- Fire Prevention at work
- How to select and use a portable fire extinguisher safely
- Local Fire procedures
- Case Study
- The Law
On Tools Courses
This course is designed to instruct employees in the theory and practice of safe use of Abrasive Wheels to comply with the “Abrasive Wheels Regulations 1982” (SI 30 / 1982). Upon completion of this course participants will be able to:
- Safely store and identify abrasive wheels
- Select the appropriate wheel use
- Inspect and recognise damaged wheels
- Mount an abrasive wheel
- Understand the hazards and risks when using abrasive wheels
This is a half day course tailored to the size, nature and exposure hazards to those persons at risk or who have to handle chemicals as part of their daily work schedule. The course will be made as site specific as possible. Course syllabus includes:
